A 4-to-4 balancer is a network of splitters and mergers that takes four input belts and distributes their combined throughput evenly across four output belts. It ensures that each output belt carries an equal share of the total input, regardless of individual input rates.
The balancer works by summing all four input rates, then dividing by four to determine the target output per belt. In a perfect balance, each output belt receives exactly one quarter of the total throughput. The calculator uses floating-point-safe math to handle non-integer values and provides a balance score to indicate how close the actual distribution is to the ideal.
Belt throughput is the maximum number of items a conveyor belt can carry per minute. In Satisfactory, different belt tiers have different capacities: Mk.1 (60/min), Mk.2 (120/min), Mk.3 (270/min), Mk.4 (480/min), Mk.5 (780/min), and Mk.6 (1200/min). The calculator uses these values to determine belt utilization and identify potential bottlenecks.
Example 1: Inputs of 120, 240, 360, and 480 items/min total 1,200/min. The target per output is 300/min. The calculator will show a 100% balance score if all outputs are 300/min.
Example 2: Inputs of 60, 60, 60, and 60 total 240/min. Target per output is 60/min. This is already perfectly balanced.
Example 3: Inputs of 200, 100, 50, and 150 total 500/min. Target per output is 125/min. The calculator will show how to distribute the uneven inputs.
